Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

"I LOVED this movie. If you are a Star Wars fan, this is must see cinema."

I’ve been excited for this movie for a while now. I thought the trailers looked great, and the early reviews from people I know were excellent. So I went into this with cautious optimism. Lucky for me, it was Awesome.

Rogue One is essentially a great war movie that takes place within the Star Wars universe. It also goes beyond the surface of good vs evil, and deals with the inner conflicts of what one has to do during times of war, even if your cause is just.

The movie follows Jyn Erso the daughter of a reluctant collaborator for the Empire. He is taken away from her at a young age and forced to work on a new super weapon we already know as the Death Star. She teams up with a great group of characters to go get the plans to destroy the Death Star.

*Minor spoiler* One nice thing about this movie, is that it deals with a major lingering question from A New Hope; Why is there such a stupid flaw in the design of the Death Star?

There is so much good to say about this movie. The characters were great, the special effects were top notch, and it didn’t seem a moment too long.

If I had to find something to knock about this movie, it’s that although the the scenery and music matched up well with the Star Wars universe, the tone of this movie was slightly different. There were no real moments of fun or great relationships, like Han and Chewey (Jyn and the robot K-2S0 had a little back and forth). This may keep it from being as rewatchable as the originals. Also the connection to the Force seemed a little different in this one. Outside of Vader, you only see a little bit of it, and it seems you can invoke it with some chanting, which was weird and out of line with what I thought I knew about the Force. Those are really my only complaints.

I LOVED this movie. I don’t think I can place it above the originals, but I liked it better than “The Force Awakens” and it is miles past the Lucas prequels. If you are a Star Wars fan, this is must see cinema.
