Jason Bourne

"None of it seemed fresh or necessary, and the new family angle that was added to help justify this film didn't really do it for me. It's probably not worth paying to see in the theaters, but if you've watched the previous films, this one is still worth a rent."

Jason Bourne is the latest installment into what has been a pretty solid franchise up to this point.

It starts out with Bourne as a traveling money fighter outside of the U.S. who is just trying to stay off of the grid. However, Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) from the previous films tracks him down to give him some new information he might be interested in. There is a new program that threatens the privacy of everyone using the internet. Basicly the fears we all already have about internet privacy. We meet a few new government agents, one of which is played by Tommy Lee Jones who is in a role we’ve seen him do to various degrees before. There is also a new female agent played by Heather Lee who is trying to decide which side of things to fall on. Along the way, Bourne also gets some new information about his family and how he came to join the Treadstone program.

In the end you get a lot of what you’ve seen before, a big car chase scene, Bourne talking to people while watching them from a rooftop, etc.

Maybe I’m a little hard on this movie because I really enjoyed the first three (excluding the Jeremy Renner one), but none of it seemed fresh or necessary, and the new family angle that was added to help justify this film didn’t really do it for me. It’s probably not worth paying to see in the theaters, but if you’ve watched the previous films, this one is still worth a rent.

*Everything below is meant for those who have already seen the movie. Spoilers ahead*

Here are a couple of other things that bothered me:

It was kind of lame for the trailer to to make it seem like Nicki had a bigger role in this film only to kill her off almost immediately. Also her acting seemed even more wooden than normal.

The part about his dad creating the program then balking and getting assassinated was kind of weak to me. Also, what is the likelihood that the son of the creator would turn out to be their most successful “asset”?
