The Nanny

"This English psychological film seems to have shades of Hitchcock mixed with a little Stephen King to leave the audience guessing until all is revealed."

‘The Nanny’ is very disturbing for an oldie. Chilling and creepy best describes this psychological mystery that fits into the thriller genre with a touch of horror. A young boy is institutionalized for the drowning of his young sister, though he insists the nanny is responsible. Following his release from the hospital, more sinister deeds occur, and again the boy insists the nanny is the culprit. Who is to blame and just what’s exactly is going on? For most of the movie we are wondering if the little boy is as bad as everyone thinks and/or if Nanny is as capable and caring as we are led to believe. This English psychological film seems to have shades of Hitchcock mixed with a little Stephen King to leave the audience guessing until all is revealed. The movie is one of the best little known 60’s Hammer horror flicks. Bette Davis is marvelous: sweet and creepy at the same time, she hits all the right notes.
