This Film is not yet Rated

As an avid film buff I have seen many films over the years where I was shocked to see the rating they got. Too often, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason why one film got an R and another got PG 13. This documentary basically confirmed what I have always suspected of the MPAA…….bureaucracy and politics involved in how movies are rated. There are also no solid rules in deciding a movie rating. It is often based on conjecture and individual opinion on how a particular scene made the rater “feel”. So for example, if the rater is a prude, they are more inclined to rate a border-line movie as NC-17. It is a subtle form of censorship and patently unfair. Filmmakers have every right to be angry with the rating system. Hence, this documentary was made to expose it. However, it’s not a very good documentary. The message it sends is a valid one, but the presentation of the message is poor.

3 stars for me.
